This is the highest honour an individual can receive in the Sciences in Canada, and recognizes Dr. McCoy's outstanding research and scholarly achievement in the microbiome and health fields. Congratulations, Dr. McCoy!
Dr. Karen Madsen
Dr. Karen Madsen awarded a Crohn's and Colitis Canada Research Grant

Dr. Madsen’s research will explore the effects of Empagliflozin in immune cells from IBD patients. The results of the study will provide evidence on whether it can be used to treat IBD. Congratulations, Dr. Madsen!

Dr. Meghan Azad has been named a Member of the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists for her research on the role of maternal nutrition and human breast milk composition in growth and development during infancy and childhood. Congratulations, Dr. Azad!

Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta has been awarded the 2021 Roux Prize for his research and public policy contributions to global maternal and child health and nutrition. Congratulations, Dr. Bhutta!

Dr. Amanda Ricciuto has been awarded a 2021 Grants-in-Aid of Research grant from Crohn's and Colitis Canada for her research on long-term health outcomes of IBD patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis. Congratulations, Dr. Ricciuto!

Dr. Sydney Morgan joined IMPACTT as our Education & Communication Coordinator. She is a microbial ecologist with research expertise in both environmental and health fields, but her passion is science education and communication. Welcome, Dr. Morgan!

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT

Dr. Ben Willing’s research on the pig gut microbiome has been featured in an article in Farms.com.

Dr. Bruce Vallance’s research on how fasting can alter the gut microbiome and potentially protect against infection was featured in articles in Sci News, Medical News Today, Express, and United Press International. You can read the original paper in PLOS Pathogens.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Scientific Reports has a call for papers for a Guest Edited Collection on the Human Microbiome. Guest Edited Collections consist of original primary research articles and are published open access and online only. Deadline: 31 Oct, 2021.

Microbial Pathogenesis has a call for papers in collaboration with Current Research in Microbial Sciences and Current Research in Immunology for a special collection called Advances in Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Immunity. Deadline: 31 Dec, 2021.

MDPI is planning a special edition on Probiotics, Prebiotics and Postbiotics in Human Health. Topic editors include IMPACTT mentee Dr. Leyuan Li. Deadline: 31 Mar, 2022.
