At the Weston Family Foundation (formerly The W. Garfield Weston Foundation), more than 60 years of philanthropy have taught us that there is a relationship between healthy landscapes and healthy people. That’s why we champion world-class health research and innovation with the same passion that we support initiatives to protect and restore biodiversity on Canada’s unique landscapes. By supporting transformative research on the microbiome, we are unlocking new pathways to enable healthy aging for the well-being of Canadians and turning emerging science into real-world solutions.
Currently, the Foundation focuses on accelerating microbiome solutions, such as microbiome-based interventions, towards real-world implementation such that they can improve clinically relevant health outcomes relevant to chronic diseases within Canada.
The Microbiome Initiative was established in 2017, has funded over 145 projects, and has donated >$85M to further microbiome research.
